Tartan and acrylic courts

About Multi-Purpose Courts (Tartan and Acrylic Courts)

Multi-purpose courts are sports courts designed to accommodate more than one type of sport. They feature a flat and flexible surface, making them safe and comfortable for playing.

The distinctive nature of these multi-purpose courts, particularly Tartan and Acrylic surfaces, makes them an ideal choice for various team and individual sports. Below, we provide a detailed overview of Acrylic and Tartan, two of the most widely used types of sports flooring.

Acrylic System Used in Multi-Purpose Courts

The acrylic system can be classified into two types:

Hard Acrylic System

  • The most commonly used and cost-effective type in Egypt.

  • Certified by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

  • Suitable for intermediate to high-level play.

  • Considered an economical court option.

  • This system does not include a cushioning layer; however, it offers a visual appearance and durability comparable to cushioned surfaces.

  • Ideal for both indoor and outdoor halls, including tennis, basketball, volleyball, and multi-purpose courts.

Tartan System Used in Tartan Courts

The second type of multi-purpose courts is Tartan courts, which can be applied using different systems:

1. Spray Coat System

  • A mixture of SBR rubber granules and polyurethane, applied using a compressor spray.

  • Most commonly used for running tracks.

2. PU System

  • A combination of black SBR rubber granules mixed with polyurethane, applied using a mechanical finisher and mixer.

  • The PU system is one of the most widely used systems for multi-purpose sports courts, with the alternative being the 2S (Colour Flex) system.

3. SW System (Sandwich System)

      • Implemented by laying a layer of SBR rubber mixed with polyurethane, followed by a colored EPDM layer mixed with polyurethane applied using a mechanical finisher.

      • Most commonly used for running tracks.

Soft Acrylic System (Soft Acrylic)

The Soft Acrylic system consists of acrylic layers with cushioning made from rubber granules mixed with an acrylic layer.

  • Provides comfort, flexibility, and shock absorption for athletes.

  • Certified by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

  • Features high elasticity and excellent shock absorption.

  • Widely used for indoor and outdoor courts, as well as multi-purpose courts such as tennis, handball, and basketball courts.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the advantages of acrylic courts?

Acrylic courts are known for their durability and toughness. They require less maintenance compared to other types of courts, can be easily cleaned with water and soap, and are more cost-effective than some alternatives. Additionally, they offer an attractive appearance and a variety of color options.

What are the advantages of Soft Acrylic courts?

Soft Acrylic courts feature higher flexibility compared to Hard Acrylic courts. They help absorb shocks and reduce pressure on the joints, minimizing the risk of injuries and providing greater comfort during play. This makes them suitable for training, schools, and sports academies.

What are Tartan systems?

Tartan systems vary depending on their intended use. They include the Cast Tartan system (Full PU) used in professional tracks, the Spray Coating system suitable for multi-purpose courts, and the Sandwich system, which combines durability and flexibility. These systems differ in thickness and elasticity according to the purpose of the court.
